Restoration: Example 3
The pair of silk Nien rugs shown below both suffered from extensive wear to much of the original fringe. To complete this project, our staff searched the globe for the correct silk (a project that alone took over a year). The silk was hand-spun and hand-woven in the proper method. A 100% cotton binding material was then sown to the rear of the fringe salvage. The fringe was sown into the ends of the rug and then the binding was sown on the back of the rug, enveloping the original end to protect it from any further damage. As is common with rugs of this weave and character, a decorative stich of two colours of wool was sown into the new fringe salvage to accent each end. Please click on any picture for an enlargement.

Repair.
Day-to-day use and abuse always results in regular maintainance and repair. Some typical repairs are detailed below: rough ends, fringes, unravelling sides, kicked-up corners, and that small spot the dog chewed or the cat clawed while you were out. Shaneybrook services all of these repairs and more.
Other restoration examples.
When abuse or damage exceeds the capabilities of more simple repairs, restoration is available. The nature of restoration projects demands a more individual assessment for the needs of your rug or carpet. A member of our conservation team can provide you with the best options and a plan for any restoration project.
