Reproduction Wilton Carpet, Reproduction Ingrain Carpet, Fort Delaware.
In the middle of the Delaware River on Pea Patch Island stands Fort Delaware. The incredibly well-preserved military installation has recently received a face-lift and restoration, including the placement of two production carpets woven exclusively for the Delaware Park Service.
The wilton carpet was woven in England and shipped to the Fort awaiting installation.
The ingrain carpet was woven and sent to our Appalachian foothills workshop in northern central Maryland. Our staff seamed the strip woven rug by hand in the proper traditional fashion.
The Shaneybrook team arrived at the break of dawn for each of four days to take a twenty minute trip to the middle of the Delaware River to the island fort. Once at the island, our installation team climbed aboard a park service jeep to be transported to the fort's edge, across the mote, through the mid-evil style gates and into the fort's interior courtyard of revolutionary war era brick and stone buildings.
Our staff suffered through the late July 100 plus degree temperatures and extreme humidity upholstering both carpets to the shape and constraints of the rooms, parlor doors, entry-ways, and fireplace hearths. As much as it was a challenge, it was an exceptionally unique and exciting experience that our staff enjoyed and was all too eager to help with.
Today, the two historic design carpets rest attractively and comfortably awaiting the families, couples, children and individuals that are ready to relive an early American defensive Fort in all its restored glory.
