What is the difference between a consignment sale estimate and an appraisal or valuation?
A consignment sale estimate is a range of prices (e.g. $1,200-2,000) that Shaneybrook's specialists believe a piece might bring if promoted for private sale or auction. Appraisals and valuations are formal documents to be used for estate tax and planning, insurance, charitable contribution and other special purposes.
How can I get an consignment sale estimate on my piece(s)?
Choose one of the following methods:
- Send an email or postal mail with detailed information on your piece(s) (please continue reading below).
- Bring the item to our main office in Parkton, Maryland. Please remember to email or call ahead -- appointments are required. Specialists are not available without appointment.

We are always pleased to offer, at no charge, our opinion of the likely value of your property if offered for consignment with Shaneybrook's. Please keep in mind the following:
- It can take approximately 4-6 weeks for our specialists to research and respond to a consignment estimate request.
- Shaneybrook's offers consignment estimates solely on the type of property we market and sell. For those areas in which we do not specialize or for items that fall below Shaneybrook's minimum consignment values, we are not able to give consignment estimates or any other information.
- Consignment sale estimates are, of course, subject to changes within the current market. They are also subject to change based on firsthand inspection of your property.
- Consignment sale estimates do not constitute a formal appraisal of the fair market value of property and are not generally suitable for insurance or other purposes.
- Shaneybrook's consignment sale estimates are soley for your personal information and may not be relied upon, copied, or distributed for any purpose without prior written consent.
