Rare 9x12 Roaring 20's Mariner Collection Thomas Develon Royal Kashan Wilton Rug.

Thomas Develon was the founder of a jacquard wilton mill in Philadelphia Pennsylvania known by the same name. The company is one of many to have disappeared with the onset of the great depression. Even after the financial disasters and dustbowl had settled, the Develon wilton rugs continued to carry a wealth of unique decorative beauty for the home owners that treasured their now prized possession.

During the 1920's, Develon produced their 'royal kashan' quality weave of jacquard wilton rugs in their exquisite Mariner collection. Their exceptionally high-quality product was rivalled only by the Whittall Anglo-Persian wilton, which was identical in every detial of manufacture. The Develon Mariner collection focused on underwater aquatic scenes with breaktakingly beautiful detail, contrast and colouring. The fastidious draftsmanship displays coral motifs, jelly fish, and a wide array of fish and other sea life throughout the field and borders, but framed by a sweeping drapery design with fringe that hangs within the very end border designs.

In over 40 years of business, this is one of only two pieces of this pattern that we have had the pleasure to see, and the only one we've owned. We are proud to offer this here for your viewing and for sale to the home owner that seeks a truely unique experience and artistic work that will enrich and enhance your own decorative style.
