A short set of simple proceedures can help to better understand and plan for shipping and/or receiving a rug or carpet. Following the list below will help to avoid problems and shipping delays.

  1. Plan how to pack the item(s) for shipment (see "How to pack your rug for shipment" below).
  2. Determine final package dimensions and weight.
  3. Confirm shipping quotes.
  4. Collect payment for service and/or purchase.
Credit card payments (paypal.com payments) require delivery to billing address or "confirmed address" on card holders account.
  5. Schedule shipment with carrier.
  6. Send tracking information.
  7. Shipment is delivered. Signature proof of delivery required.

Shaneybrooks recommends several packing methods (based on the size of your rug or carpet) to safely protect your property in transit. These are detailed below.

IMPORTANT GUIDELINES:

  1. Shaneybrooks recommends rolling rugs or carpets for shipment.

  2. Never fold or crease a rug or carpet. Folded or creased shipments often break the foundation materials of most rugs.

  3. Never force or bend a rug into a box.

Small rugs can be shipped using standard (free) FedEx and UPS tubes. These are made with cardboard in a tri-fold design.

Medium sized rugs, those measuring approximately 3x5 to 5x8, can be rolled and packaged with watersproof packing paper.

Large rugs, those above 5x8, should be rolled on a 1-1/2 inch pvc pipe, a thick cardboard roll, or a bamboo shoot to prevent bending of the of the rug or carpet when in transit. Waterproof paper is also necessary.

As an alternative, crating a rug for shipment (or a number of rugs) is also an option. Crating can be expensive, but it is often the safest of all possible packing methods. We recommend crating for all medium and large size rug shipments sent internationally. Waterproof paper and extremely well sealed packages are necessary for the interior of the crate.

Shaneybrook has prepared a packing guide: "preparing your rug for shipment" is available by clicking here ›

If you are having difficulty finding appropriate materials to ship your rug, a Shaneybrook packing care-package is available. It includes: waterproof, tear proof packing paper, waterproof packing tape, twine for tying a rolled rug, and a copy of the "preparing your rug for shipment" guide. PVC pipe or similar tubes are NOT included (PVC pipes can be obtained at most hardware stores). Please use the contact and support form if you wish to order a packing care-package.

When your shipment is sent, you will receive an email notificaion with a tracking or bill-of-lading number and the contact information of the carrier that is transporting your goods. You will be able to use a website link and/or telephone service to monitor your package in transit.
